Desert Diaries – My Day with Jesus

Well I didn’t expect to end up in the wilderness, and I have no clue how I did.
Worst of all with no map. No Wi-Fi!!!, no FOOD! Just sand… and Jesus. (yayy)

But there he was, sitting calmly on a rock, as if the desert was His backyard. (Technically, ig it is, because he is the creator of the universe, remember?….)

He looked at me and smiled. “Ready?”
I blinked. “Ready for what? A heatstroke?”
He laughed softly.

We started walking. And let me tell you—Jesus walks FAST with purpose.
I was barely behind, feeling the dry wind and trying not to trip on the sand, due to FOOD deprivation.

You see, I was fasting. Not just from food, but from distractions too—trying to focus on Him.
But also… very hungry. Like, “Like seriously Lord, even a dry cracker sounds enlightening right now” kind of hungry.

Then, out of nowhere, a table appeared.
Not just any table—this one looked like a gourmet feast.
Warm bread, golden fries, juicy fruit, even a jug of cold water that sparkled like a blessing.
My stomach growled so loud I was sure the whole desert heard.

Jesus glanced my way and raised an eyebrow.
That’s when I remembered:

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

I looked at that glorious food…
Paused…
Put my hands up like I was fending off a bad idea and whispered:
“You’re not tempting me, not today, Satan.” 😤

Jesus smiled. That proud, satisfactory father-knowing smile.

I took a deep breath, looked away from the feast, and kept walking.
My stomach grumbled louder—but my heart felt way fuller.

Later, we rested under a lone tree. The silence was deep.
I finally broke the awkward silence and asked, “Why bring me here? Why the wilderness? Out of ALL the places in the world?!”

Jesus looked at me and said,

“Because when the world is quiet, your heart can hear Me better.”

That stayed with me long after.

As the sun set, the desert glowed gold.
The wilderness wasn’t empty—it was holy.

Jesus smiled and said,

“Let’s walk again tomorrow.”

But… did it happen in real life? Or was it a vision during prayer or fasting? I don’t know… but it felt real. And God taught me something through it. Well, even though the entire experience was based off food and my soulless hunger, what I’ve learned is:
God sometimes takes us to quiet and hard places to teach us important lessons.
When we have nothing else, we learn to listen to Him more clearly.
Even when we feel hungry, tired, or tempted, Jesus reminds us that He is all we really need.
And when we walk with Him, everything feels just and right and at home. (YEP, EVEN the desert).
